In the absence of landlords and ranch standardization, the Olema Valley ranches display a broader architectural styles and site development, including fragmented orchards containing heritage trees. Olema Valley Ranches Historic District (including the Lagunitas Creek ranches): a smaller but comparable district, also with origins in nineteenth century dairying. The Pierce Point Ranch, now on the National Register, will be joined by the other operating ranches in the near future. Many of the existing ranches are operated by descendents of the early Point Reyes dairies. Point Reyes Ranches Historic District: Over 22,000 acres on the coastal plain, highlighting the origin of ranching in west Marin, and emphasizing the history of the Shafter / Howard dairy enterprise (1857–1939), also known as the “alphabet ranches”, and its contribution to the development of industrial-scale dairy in California. The cultural landscapes in the National Seashore include: Hall of the Portuguese ranching community that once stood on “N” Ranch. Examples at Point Reyes include the inhabitation and resource collection and processing sites for the Coast Miwok in historic and prehistoric time, and the I.D.E.S. In the absence of archived documents of written histories, ethnographic landscapes are dependent on oral histories and material artifacts to piece together an understanding a cultural groups heritage. The ranches along Lagunitas Creek and the Olema Valley fall in this category. Conversely, there are vernacular, or homespun landscapes developed out of need or desire over time, rather than arising from measured designs. They may express a high level of design, as seen in the two former RCA / Marconi Wireless Stations on Point Reyes and Bolinas. Landscapes can range in scale from historic sites to substantial districts. The smallest is located at nineteenth century lime kilns located in the Olema Valley. The dairy and cattle ranches on Point Reyes peninsula represent the single largest cultural landscape. Over time, each is being documented, evaluated and, where necessary, rehabilitated, following guidelines of the National Register of Historic Places. The National Seashore has identified twelve historic cultural landscapes within its boundaries and the north district of Golden Gate National Recreation Area administered by Point Reyes. Those changes, imposed upon a rugged coastal environment, were filtered through the lens of cultural values, traditions, lifeways, economies, and technologies of people who emigrated from small and great distances over a period of several millennia though current time. The Point Reyes peninsula is remarkably covered with numerous layers of human activity that have left sometimes overt, other times subtle changes on the landscape.

The Abbe diagram is created to compare various glass types based on Abbe number and refractive index for a certain wavelength. A high Abbe number indicates low chromatic aberration, and a low Abbe number indicates high chromatic aberration. The Abbe number is inversely related to the amount of chromatic aberration. Also known as the V-number, the Abbe number combines the refractive indices of a material at three wavelengths (486.1 nm blue from hydrogen, 589.2 nm yellow from sodium, and 656.3 nm red from hydrogen) to approximate the amount of chromatic aberration a material will have when visible light passes through it (Figure 3). In the late 1800s, German physicist Ernst Abbe, a colleague of Carl Zeiss, created the Abbe number, a measure of the magnitude of chromatic dispersion for the visible spectrum. Calculation of the Abbe number to describe the amount of chromatic dispersion for a medium. This can be visualized on images at bright to dark boundaries as “fringes” of color. Each wavelength of light will thus be focused at a different distance away from the lens. In Figure 2, a single lens demonstrates chromatic aberration as different wavelengths of light have different focal lengths after passing through the lens. As a result, the index of refraction for a given medium will vary based on the wavelength of light going through it. When a single beam composed of multiple wavelengths of light passes through a lens, each wavelength of light will change direction and speed to different extents. The interaction of the particular wavelength of light with electrons in the medium gives rise to this phenomenon. Chromatic DispersionĬhromatic dispersion, also referred to as chromatic aberration, is a phenomenon where the speed and direction of light propagation in an optical medium depends on the wavelength of light. Chromatic aberration results in a single beam of light to have a different focal point for each wavelength. Lens Material Properties Index of Refractionįigure 2. Critical lens properties include refractive index, Abbe number (chromatic dispersion), specific gravity, and ultraviolet absorption. Lenses can be produced using a variety of materials and designed with several optical profiles to optimize use in specific applications. Eyeglasses also serve an important role in protecting the eyes from physical trauma and harmful radiation. Both lenses and prisms are also frequently used to improve eye alignment and treat diplopia in strabismus. You can also in post erase the diffraction spike.Corrective spherocylindrical lenses are commonly used to treat refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism. This can also work if the diffraction spike is interfering with the object you are trying to image. If you have a reflector telescope or using Fastar/ Hyperstar, you can minimize diffraction spikes by taking multiple images while changing the angle of your telescope and then overlay the images. If you want additional diffraction spikes in your reflector or Schmidt Cassegrain, lay string across the optical tube. In addition, when you use astroimage cameras, you have cables going in and out of the camera that go across your optical lens preventing light from coming in and creating a diffraction spike. If your DSLR is bulky and is bigger than the secondary mirror, it blocks light coming into your mirrors and therefore creates a diffraction spike in your image. You can manually create diffraction spikes when using Fastar/ Hyperstar with either your equipment (bulky cameras or Astroimaging cameras) or with strings you place on the front part of your optical tube. With the secondary mirror being held up by the lens it eliminates diffraction spikes. This spike isn’t present with refractors as it doesn’t have a secondary mirror.Ĭelestron Schmidt Cassegrain and EdgeHD optical tubes have an optical lens at the front-end where the secondary mirror is held in the middle. A diffraction spike is caused by how light bends or diffracts around an object or in this case the support beams in your secondary mirror in reflecting telescopes. A diffraction spike is the light you see extend from a star in your astro-images. It's probably: a Bartholin's cyst It could be a regular sebaceous cyst (more about that later), but it could also be a Bartholin's cyst. i had a GIGANTIC and monstrous (ingrown hair? cyst?) on my bikini line before, but it was RIGHT in the crack between my inner thigh and outer labia, so right where in the bikini line area that keeps coming back. Many people refer to epidermoid cysts as sebaceous cysts, but they're different. A sebaceous cyst is a small lump or bump under the skin. The tiny Bartholin glands are deep under the skin on either risk. Sebaceous cysts are generally mobile masses that consist of: Fibrous tissues and fluids. Many people refer to epidermoid cysts as sebaceous cysts, but. It occurs primarily on the face, neck, shoulder, or chest (hair-bearing areas of the body). Bumps on Labia Causes: Minora, Monora, How to Treat. Epsom Salt Epsom Salt is a mix of minerals which helps you heal sebaceous cyst by eliminating its causing bacteria. In some cases, your doctor may use a laser for removal. Hi, 'A sebaceous contents: May need to drain the contents. The sebaceous gland produces the oil (called sebum) that coats your hair and skin. Some cysts are harmless but others can be infected and may cause discomfort. Let us know what you learn and how you do. Although most commonly located on the face, neck, and trunk, epidermoid cysts can be found anywhere including the scrotum, genitalia, fingers, and cases within the buccal mucosa. I’ve had a painful red cyst on my bikini line for about 4 years now. and sometimes leaves an open deep hole in skin. Cysts are common on the skin and can appear anywhere. The best thing to do is soak the cyst because this can help it resolve on its own. People often get painless little bumps under their Does My Sebaceous Cyst Keep Coming Back?">Why Does My Sebaceous Cyst Keep Coming Back?. Sebaceous cysts grow slowly, so the trauma may have occurred weeks or months before you notice the cyst. It may sometime contain serosanguineous fluid. Sebaceous cysts: These are cysts that develop when oil-producing sebaceous glands of the vulva (external genitalia) become blocked. The size of a sebaceous cyst ranges from pea-sized, at about one centimeter across to around five centimeters across. Cyst Treatment: How To Get Rid Of a Skin Cyst.
